Two cities. One company. One live leaderboard. And some seriously competitive colleagues!

When Darktrace brought their Sydney and Melbourne offices together for an epic multi-city team building event, there was one very important question. Which city would walk away with the ultimate bragging rights?

Would Sydney prove they were the team to beat? Or would Melbourne show their northern colleagues how it’s done?

We decided to settle the debate the only way we know how. With a Corporate Amazing Race, plenty of challenges and a little friendly interstate sabotage!

Two Cities, One Team Building Event and a Whole Lot of Rivalry!

Who says everyone needs to be in the same location to enjoy an unforgettable corporate team building experience?

For Darktrace, we created a fully hosted Amazing Race that connected their Sydney and Melbourne offices through one exciting competition. While teams explored their respective cities, they tackled identical challenges and competed for points on a shared live leaderboard.

Our Sydney team building event ran alongside the Melbourne team building experience. As a result, everyone could participate in the same competition without needing to travel interstate.

Throughout the afternoon, teams worked together to solve clues, complete challenges and collect as many points as possible. Meanwhile, the live leaderboard allowed everyone to follow the action across both cities.

One minute, a team was sitting comfortably near the top. The next, their interstate rivals had scored a stack of bonus points and sent them tumbling down the rankings.

Suddenly, those colleagues hundreds of kilometres away felt a whole lot closer!

Roadblocks, Bonus Points and Some Very Questionable Team Bonding!

Of course, we couldn’t organise a Sydney vs Melbourne team building event without adding a few surprises. And what better way to bring colleagues together than letting them sabotage each other from another state?

That’s right! Teams could roadblock their competitors in the opposite city. Sydney could throw a spanner in Melbourne’s plans, while Melbourne had the chance to return the favour.

And did they take advantage of it? Absolutely!

Suddenly, the competition wasn’t just about completing challenges. Teams had to communicate, think strategically and decide when to unleash a roadblock on their interstate colleagues.

Meanwhile, dramatic bonus points kept the leaderboard interesting. Just when someone thought they had secured a comfortable lead, another team could come charging through the rankings.

It was teamwork, problem-solving and a healthy dose of friendly rivalry. Exactly what we love to see during our corporate team bonding activities!

Although, we’re not entirely sure Melbourne would describe being roadblocked by Sydney as a bonding experience!

One of the biggest challenges for companies with multiple offices is finding ways to bring their employees together. After all, it’s not always practical to fly everyone to one location for a team building day.

While both cities were competing in the same event, each team enjoyed the experience in their own location.

Our Sydney Amazing Race and Melbourne Amazing Race ran simultaneously, with the same challenges and scoring opportunities. This created a fair competition while allowing employees to explore their respective cities.

For businesses searching for team building in Sydney or team building in Melbourne, an Amazing Race offers a fantastic mix of outdoor fun, problem-solving and teamwork.

However, connecting the two locations added another level of excitement!

Instead of competing only against colleagues in their own office, Darktrace employees became part of a much bigger event. Every point mattered, every bonus challenge counted and every leaderboard update added to the anticipation.

It also meant colleagues who don’t usually work together could share the excitement of one company-wide experience.

SYDNEY!

Of course, we’re sure Melbourne will have a few excuses. Perhaps Sydney got lucky with the bonus points? Maybe those roadblocks were a little unfair? Or perhaps Melbourne was too busy planning their next coffee stop?

Whatever the reason, the leaderboard doesn’t lie!

The winning Sydney team claimed victory, along with the right to remind their Melbourne colleagues about it for the foreseeable future.

However, beyond the competition, the real win was bringing Darktrace’s two offices together through one unforgettable team building experience.

There were plenty of laughs, some clever teamwork and just enough friendly sabotage to keep everyone entertained. Most importantly, everyone was part of the same event, regardless of which city they called home.

And while Melbourne might already be demanding a rematch, Sydney can enjoy their moment of glory.
