Canberra Task Master: Conference Chaos in the Best Possible Way

What happens when you bring different departments and suppliers together for a conference, then throw them into an afternoon of puzzles, challenges and organised chaos?

You get a very entertaining Task Master team building event in Canberra.

Recently, we joined The Salvation Army for their conference in Canberra. Even better, this was their second event with Tailored Team Building. After working with this crew before, we knew they would bring plenty of energy.

They certainly didn’t disappoint.

Kerri and Chris took over for the afternoon and turned the conference room into Task Master HQ. From there, teams faced a series of challenges designed to test communication, problem-solving, creativity and teamwork.

And, naturally, things became competitive pretty quickly.

From Conference Mode to Complete Chaos

Conferences are fantastic for bringing people together. However, after hours of presentations and meetings, sometimes everyone needs something completely different.

That’s where a good conference breakout session comes in. For The Salvation Army, our indoor Task Master gave everyone the chance to get out of their seats, mix with different people and have some fun.

Teams worked together to solve puzzles and complete a range of Task Master-style challenges. Some required clever thinking. Others needed strong communication or a solid team strategy.

Then there were the challenges where enthusiasm was probably more useful than strategy. Either way, there was plenty of laughter around the room.

Building Team Culture Without the Awkward Team Building

One thing we loved hearing after the event was how much the experience helped support their team culture.

Bringing different departments and suppliers together isn’t just about having everyone in the same room. You want people talking, collaborating and building relationships outside their usual workplace groups.

That’s exactly what started happening.

The challenges gave teams a reason to communicate and problem-solve together. Meanwhile, the competitive side kept everyone engaged.

It’s why Task Master is one of our favourite team building activities for work. It encourages genuine teamwork without ever feeling too serious.

Indoor Team Building That Works for Conferences

Task Master is also a great option when you need indoor team building as part of a conference.

There’s no running across the city. There are no weather worries. Plus, challenges can suit different ages, abilities and personalities.

Instead, teams take on a mixture of puzzles, creative challenges and slightly ridiculous tasks. That variety also makes it one of our favourite fun team building ideas for work. The problem-solvers get their moment. The creative thinkers get theirs. And the unexpected Task Master superstar usually appears somewhere along the way.

Most importantly, everyone gets involved.

Team Bonding Ideas With Plenty of Laughs

Some of the best team bonding ideas are the ones where people forget they’re technically doing team building.

Instead, they’re focused on solving a puzzle before the other teams. They’re debating a completely unnecessary strategy. Or they’re laughing at something a colleague has just attempted in the name of points.

Those shared moments are what make events like this so much fun. For The Salvation Army, it was also another chance to continue building the strong team culture that supports the work they do.

And based on the laughter throughout the afternoon, we’d say they embraced the assignment.

There’s something extra special about welcoming a client back for another event.

The Salvation Army trusted us for a second time, and once again, they were an absolute pleasure to work with. Their team threw themselves into every challenge and brought fantastic energy to the afternoon.

They’ve already said they’re looking forward to working with us again in the future. We definitely are too.
