One Birthday. Zero Chill. Maximum Adventure.
Turning 40 deserves more than a dinner and a cake. For Cody, it became a full-scale Sunshine Coast Adventure Race, packed with costumes, chaos, and non-stop fun.
The brief was simple. Celebrate a milestone birthday. Turn heads while doing it. Naturally, the dress-up theme was “something that turns heads”, and the teams delivered. Bold outfits, bright colours, and questionable fashion choices set the tone before the race even began.
Beach Challenges to Kick Off the Adventure Race
The race started beachside with our classic food relay challenge. It was fast, frantic, and highly competitive. Costumes only added to the chaos. From there, teams switched gears for a sandcastle building challenge on Sally’s Beach. Creativity ran wild. Structural integrity did not.
It was the perfect way to ease everyone into the day while setting competitive spirits alight.
Kayaking to Bribie Island for the Next Clue
Next, teams headed out onto the water. Each group selected two paddlers to double kayak across to Bribie Island. Bright costumes bobbed across the channel as teams searched for their next envelope.
Once found, it was straight back across the water. Arms burned. Laughter carried. The adventure race was well underway.
Kawana Sports Precinct: Slingshots, Pool Toys & Relays
From the coast, the race moved inland to Kawana Sports Precinct. Slingshots launched. Scores were tracked. Competitive banter intensified.
Then came inflatable chaos. Teams were handed random pool toys and told to blow them up as fast as possible. With inflatables ready, they hit the swimming pool for relay laps. It was loud, ridiculous, and an instant crowd-pleaser.
Indoor Climbing and Cipher Cracking
The next checkpoint took teams to RockIt Indoor Climbing. To earn their clue, they had to scale the walls in full costume. Heights tested nerves. Cheers echoed.
However, the challenge wasn’t over. Teams then had to crack a cipher to unlock a locked briefcase. Inside waited the all-important lunch location.
Picnic Lunch and Birthday Recharge
A relaxed picnic lunch followed in a nearby park. Fresh salads and sandwiches helped refuel tired bodies. Shoes came off. Stories were shared. Energy levels quickly returned.
Then it was back into race mode.
Matching Cody Through the Years
The afternoon kicked off with a fun photo match-up challenge. Teams searched under discs to find matching photos of Cody throughout his life. Baby photos caused confusion. Teenage photos raised eyebrows.
Once matched correctly, the next clue was revealed.
High Ropes at the Big Pineapple
That clue led teams straight to The Big Pineapple. Here, they tackled the zipline and high ropes course. It was a highlight of the Sunshine Coast adventure race. Courage was tested. Screams followed. Smiles lasted.
AMAZEworld, Hedge Mazes & Where’s Wally
From there, teams rolled into AMAZEworld. First came a competitive round of mini golf. Then teams charged into the hedge maze to search for their next checkpoint.
Waiting inside was Cody’s mum, proudly playing Where’s Wally, scarf included. Finding her became an unforgettable moment.
TimeZone, Sunshine Plaza & the Final Sprint
The final leg took teams to Sunshine Plaza, where TimeZone awaited. Lights flashed. Tickets poured out. Teams raced to score as many points as possible before the final dash back to their host.
The race wrapped up at Pier33, where tired legs, big laughs, and birthday celebrations took over.
