ReadyGrad Takes on the Perth Amazing Race!

Fun corporate team building activity for graduates in Perth

Fast Facts

The Training Day Just Got Competitive

Training done. Laptops closed. Game faces on. It was time to swap the training room for the streets of Perth!

We recently teamed up with ReadyGrad once again for a fun-filled Perth Amazing Race. This time, a small group of graduates took on a tailored race through Perth CBD and Kings Park.

We’ve hosted a number of events for ReadyGrad over the years. They work with different organisations to help graduates prepare for life in the workforce. Their programs focus on building skills, confidence and connections. Then, after a full day of learning, we come in to shake things up!

Instead of another session in the training room, we get everyone outside, into teams and ready to race.

Training Done. Game Faces On.

Once the training wrapped up, our hosts took over. The graduates swapped notebooks for race materials and headed into Perth CBD.

From there, the competition began.

Teams had to navigate their way through the city and towards Kings Park. Along the way, they tackled a mix of clues, challenges and team activities. Some tested their problem-solving skills. Others required teamwork and communication. Of course, a few were simply there to make everyone laugh.

Most importantly, the race gave the graduates a chance to relax and have fun together.

Because every Corporate Amazing Race we create is tailored, there was no generic route or cookie-cutter event. Instead, we designed the experience around the group, the location and the time available.

Perth became their playground. All they had to do was race!

Why Amazing Races Work So Well for Graduate Programs

Starting a graduate program is exciting. However, it can also mean walking into a room full of people you’ve only just met.

That’s why we love an Amazing Race as a graduate program team building idea.

Rather than relying on formal networking or awkward icebreakers, the race gets people talking naturally. Suddenly, teams have a shared goal. They need to make decisions, solve problems and work out who is good at what.

Meanwhile, they’re also getting to know each other.

It’s one of the reasons an Amazing Race works so well after a training day. The structured learning is finished, so everyone can switch gears. They can relax, laugh and enjoy some friendly competition.

As a result, new colleagues start to feel much more like a team.

Small Group? Bring It On!

You definitely don’t need hundreds of people to create an exciting Amazing Race.

In fact, smaller groups can be incredibly competitive. With only a few teams in the race, every challenge matters. Plus, spotting another team nearby can suddenly make everyone move a little faster!

For this ReadyGrad event, Perth CBD and Kings Park provided a brilliant backdrop. The city gave us plenty of options for clues and challenges. Meanwhile, Kings Park added open spaces and a completely different feel to the race.

Together, they created a great mix for this graduate team building event.

Of course, we also love the big ones. Our Corporate Amazing Races can work for small graduate groups, large company events and even huge multi-team races. We simply tailor the format to suit the group.

Corporate Team Building That Doesn’t Feel Too Corporate

When companies search for corporate team building activities for work, they usually want more than an activity to fill the afternoon.

They want people to connect.

However, that doesn’t mean the experience needs to feel like another workplace exercise.

That’s where the Amazing Race comes in.

Teams communicate because they want to beat the competition. They solve problems because they need to unlock the next part of the race. They delegate tasks because someone has to take charge. At the same time, they learn more about the people around them.

All of that happens without stopping to announce, “Now we’re going to practise teamwork!”

Instead, everyone gets caught up in the race. The team building happens naturally along the way.

For graduate programs, that makes it one of our favourite fun team building activity ideas. It’s active, social and easy to tailor. Better still, it gives graduates a shared experience from the very beginning of their working journey.

From New Colleagues to Race Teammates

A great graduate program gives people the tools they need for the workplace. However, building relationships is just as important.

After all, these are the people graduates may be working with, learning from and calling on for support in the months ahead.

A shared experience can help break down those early barriers. It creates conversations, inside jokes and plenty of “remember when…” moments.

That’s why we love working with ReadyGrad. Their training builds the professional skills. Then we arrive to bring the energy, competition and fun.

It’s a pretty great combination.
